Summer School - "Optimisation of image quality and X-radiation dose in medical imaging" – OPTIMAX#14
Following a new successful European grant application, the 2nd edition of the research summer school in "Optimisation of image quality and X-radiation dose in medical imaging" - OPTIMAX#14 will be hosted at Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde de Lisboa (ESTESL).
The school will run in August 2014 (3rd to 23rd) and it should be of interest to Radiology students from ESTeSL who have an interest in one or more of the following subjects: Visual perception; Physics and instrumentation of medical imaging; Optimisation of radiation dose and medical image quality.
You will be expected to participate in research of other student groups as well as your own. In total there will be 6 research groups, each with its own research question.
The summer school will commence with a pre-course reading. During the summer school there will be lectures, however the majority of the time will be devoted to undertaking research, in small multi cultural and multi-professional teams, in collaboration with academic staff and/or PhD students. By the end of the third week it is anticipated that each team will have prepared a draft paper suitable for submission to a journal; they will also deliver a PowerPoint presentation about their research.
Approximately 50 students and 10 academic staff will participate from:
- Lisbon - Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde de Lisboa (ESTeSL)
- Oslo - Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences
- Lausanne - Haute École de Santé Vaud
- Groningen - Hanze University of Applied Sciences
- Salford - University of Salford
A cultural social programme will be available at various points during the three weeks. This programme will enable students and tutors to gain insight into life in another culture / country and also experience Portuguese life and culture.
Applicants should submit a motivation letter written in English with a maximum length of 500 words until 7th March 2014 to comunicacao@estesl.ipl.pt. An additional interview in English could be undertaken, if needed to select the 10 students from ESTeSL to participate. The research summer school awards 7 ECTS to be included in the Diploma Supplement.
